Nithya Sahaya Matha Central School is run by FIH. The Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
Quilon is the first indigenous women’s religious congregation in Asia, founded in response to the poor societal status and
lack of education for women in the 19th century.
The 1844 Synod of Pondicherry, led by Bishop Clement Bonnand, emphasized the need for girls' education. Father Louis Savinien
Dupuis, MEP, founded the congregation on October 16, 1844, with papal approval, to address this need by establishing schools
and a printing press.
In 1907, Bishop Aloysius Maria Benziger brought the congregation to Kerala. Later, in 1947, under Bishop Jerome M. Fernandez, it was declared an independent diocesan congregation, continuing its mission to uplift women through education and religious service.
